Sudbury, Sault Ste. Mary and over the border we go...and all the way to Iowa!
After a short but lovely visit with Karen, Marty and Anne Schreiter at the Lake we headed to Sudbury. Jason showed us a great time. We went to a cool pub called the Laughing Buddha where we all ordered unusual but delicious beers. I had a sweet and fruity Japanese beer and Brad ordered St. Peters, a UK beer that tasted strongly of buckwheat honey also very yummy (we strongly recommend trying it if you see it Mike and Raquel). We also walked the very windy boardwalk around Ramsey Lake together.
Yesterday we left Sudbury (after a pit stop at the Big Nickel) and were on the road by 9:30. We stopped for lunch outside of the Sault, got ourselves some overpriced travelers health insurance and crossed the border around 2pm. Our border dude was very chill and after a brief discussion about our truck modifications we were on the other side, smooth sailing! We made it as far as Hog Island State Forest in Michigan. We saw 4 kinds of Warblers just before dinner in the cedars that surrounded our campsite.
This morning we had a really nice view to wake up to. Our campsite was right on Lake Michigan. We had a quick breakfast and were on the road by 8:30. We drove clear through Wisconsin (but not before stopping for some cheese) and made it to Dubuque, Iowa. Right now were are using the free WiFi outside of a McDonalds!
We are not too sure how far we will make it tomorrow. After two full days of driving I am ready for a day of exploration and adventure. The rough idea is to be in the Denver area by the end of the week. But we'll give you more details as we come up with them. What we can tell you for sure, is that tonight we are camping out along the swollen Mississippi!
Peas and Love
Gotta love the free wifi at McD's. Nice to know where you are.
ReplyDeleteDespite being in England, Raquel and I are jealous of your road trip already! We'll keep an eye out for the beer. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteWe just got back from St. Louis, they said the river was 20 feet higher than normal down there. I'd highly recommend a paddle, you'll be in N'Orleans before you y'all know it.
