Day in the Life of Court and Brad

We are 7 weeks into our travels and have become quite accustom to life on the road. Here are a few mid trip stats:
·         Total kilometers: 9359 km
·         Highest elevation: Vail Pass – 11,238ft
·         Lowest elevation: -192 ft Death Valley
·         Highest temperature: 39°C
·         Lowest temperature: -2°C
·         Furthest South: Big Sur, California
·         Total amount spent on accommodation $254

Here is what our typical day looks like:
·         7am rise, dog paw punch in the face followed by full face cleaning
o   Brad and Aurora go for a morning walk, in last night’s clothes (i.e. the clothes that I’ll wear today...and probably tomorrow).
o   Egg-‘n-a-hole or oatmeal for breakfast
o   Travel mugs ready for travel (full of tea)
o   Clean house (shake sheets, remove dog hair from cab
o   Map time – ask our daily question: “where are we going today?”
·         10am – 1pm Departure
·         Picnic lunch – sandwiches, burritos, usually something involving salsa and/or pickled jalapenos, rarely leftovers
·         On the road, these days driving on average two hours.
o   Over the course of the drive we usually do all of the following:
§  find a Mcdonalds/Starbucks for free wifi
§  Visit two visitor centres and ask our favourite question: “Where can we camp for free?”
§  Gas station (in Oregon, if you pump your own gas, they think you are trying to steal it)
§  Grocery store
§  Something neat we see along the road – cool stop, hike, unique something, stop and walk (this is usually blog material)
·         Upon arrival at destination, we do a walk to check to lay of land and explore.
·         Setup camp:
o   Take out table and chairs
o   Crack a beer
o   Eat salty pretzels with mustard
o   Have a game of cribbage or backgammon
·         Between 2-4pm ‘Craft in the Aft’: belts, macramé, wood carving, necklaces, etc
·         Between 4-9pm: journal, draft emails, examine maps, daydream, hammock, harmonica, hike, snack, read poetry/books, doodle, nap, cook, eat, walk the dog, sit quietly or laugh loudly

·  It is entirely likely that we will never again be so carefree.

Sorry for the lack of photos computer is about to die!
Love you, Miss you, Think of you often!

  2. It's not a matter of the morning grumps, its more about a love-affair with sleeping in ;)
